بازی The Last of Us Part 2 با 10 نامزدی در بخش‌های مختلف از جمله بخش بهترین بازی سال، در این زمینه پیشتاز است و پس از آن بازی مستقل Hades با 9 نامزدی درخشش قابل توجهی از خود نشان داده است.
بازی‌های Hades، The Last of Us Part 2, Ghost of Tsushima و Final Fantasy 7 Remake همگی برای بهترین بازی سال نامزد شده‌اند به علاوه‌ی بخش‌های اصلی یعنی: بهترین کارگردانی، بهترین داستان و بهترین کارگردانی هنری. دو نامزد دیگر در بخش بهترین بازی سال Doom Eternal و Animal Crossing: New Horizons نیز به ترتيب 4 و 3 نامزدی در بخش‌های مختلف دارند.
به طور کلی از بین 75 بازی که در 23 بخش مختلف نامزد شده‌اند، سونی با 22 نامزدی فوق‌العاده عمل کرده است و پس از نینتندو در سال 2017 که 23 نامزدی به دست آورده بود، رکورد دار است.
مراسم بهترین بازی امسال به دلیل مسائل همه‌گیری جهانی ویروس، به صورت غیر حضوری برگزار می‌شود و در تاریخ 20 آذرماه باید منتظر این نمایش جذاب باشیم. مجری این مراسم آقای جف کیلی می‌باشد و خبر خوش دیگری که اعلام کرده‌اند حضور ارکستر سمفونیک The Game Awards می‌باشد.
